$43.3 Billion is a LOT of cheddar…
If I were to ask you what niche industry brings in $43.3 BILLION in sales every year, what would your guess be?
Would you look at big ticket businesses like biotech, travel or natural gas?
Or would you look for something smaller in the tech market – maybe Mp3 players or the newest smartphone?
If you did – you’d be wrong.
The niche market that’s bringing in a STAGGERING $43.3 Billion in annual sales is…
Organic food.
Since the mid 1980’s, there’s been a monumental shift towards healthier lifestyles – with each new decade bringing it’s own new twist to the table – and in the early part of this century, organic food has been one of the biggest additions (and money makers) the health movement has ever seen.
Since its inception, organic food has been touting how much healthier it is than “normal” food – as it was said to contain more nutrients and less pesticides and preservatives than its commercially grown counterpart.
Which is great… but I said “was” for a reason – because that may no longer be the case.
Reuters recently released a report stating that organic foods do not contain any more nutrients than the conventional variety, according to Stanford University and the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System.
Dr. Crystal Smith-Spangler, head researcher on the project said,
“People choose to buy organic foods for many different reasons. One of them is perceived health benefits. Our patients, our families ask about, ‘Well, are there health reasons to choose organic food in terms of nutritional content or human health outcomes?‘”
And that answer is yes – but not because of what they contain…
But what they DON’T contain.
You see, according to USDA standards, “organic farms” have to avoid the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, hormones and antibiotics and organic livestock must have access to pastures during grazing season.
In contrast, many of today’s conventional farms use pesticides to ward off bugs and raise animals in crowded indoor conditions with antibiotics in their feed to promote growth and ward off disease.
It’s called progress…
But somewhere along the line, many people were convinced that it’s a healthier way to eat.
The only problem?
Even though organic food may have lower costs when it comes to supplies – they have higher costs in man-power – as it takes a careful and steady hand to raise healthy crops without the aid of synthetic science, which can lead to retail prices that are as much as twice as expensive as conventional food.
But…
Is the extra cost worth it?
Depends on who you ask…
My friends have been drinking organic milk for years, and say that it tastes better and generally lasts LONGER than milk processed in the conventional way.
Same with eggs… my friends often say the “cage free” variety taste better than those collected in those huge chicken farms we’ve all seen on TV.
Is organic for you?
Should you switch over to ALL organic?
After doing a little research, many experts say that the best guideline when it comes to food in its own wrapping, ie. Oranges, bananas, watermelons, etc. – is the pesticides stay out and the nutrients stay in – so no need to spend the extra bucks at the grocery line for those items…
So when it comes to foods like strawberries, potatoes and other similar fruits and vegetables, these experts still say, “use your judgment” – if you like the taste and don’t mind paying a little extra – go for it!
The only thing I know for sure is that at $43.3 Billion – organic food has become a BIG business, and there are plenty of ways that we, as investors, can take advantage of this.
One of the most obvious choices are the publicly traded, big chain organic grocery stores and food producers…
There are a few different stocks that have risen to prominence over the past two decades…
And they’ve really found their groove over the years as a few have exploded! One such example is Whole Foods, as the stock has grown by more than 1,000% in that time!
This is a definitely a market GorillaTrades will continue to explore…
And you can be sure that the moment I find the next major mover in this industry, my subscribers will be the first to know!
There are plenty of choices out there…
And whether you choose to eat organic or not, one thing is for sure: we can make money!
